Hello, I am completely new to the world of Nissan motors. I had preciously owned a 97 GSR that was stolen from me and completely stripped down....

With the insurance money and a lil extra I had approx 10k so with $5500 I bought a 96 240SX and now i have $4500 laying around for S14 SR20DET

I did my research but I still have a question that I do not understand. Does the tachometer need to be changed with a S14 SR20DET engine swap? I know that it will change the redline and everything...(correct me if im wrong)

If i need to change to tachometer should I just go with the aftermarket tachs or should i actually buy an actual tach from a JDM S15?

your tachometer does NOT need to be changed. After you done the wiring and installation, your new engine and ECU and stuff will work with your USDM 240sx. Even though yuor redline will be higher with your SR20DET, you can still rev above the USDM tachometer's indicated redline.

S15 tach wont fit your s14. Just let the shop do everything if you have any questions. The shop will order the parts needed so you don't have to worry about anything like this.

Thank you for that info. Do you know what the redline of SR20DET is?

Sounds like a good plan! Its good to get used to the RWD prior to doing the swap. You should like the RWD even if it can be tricky durring the bad weather.Keep in mind when you get tempted to go fast in bad weather that if you wreck your ride then no swap.;) Good luck and keep us posted with pics.

redline is 7500. You can move it up to 7700 with an ecu upgrade. Havn't seen much higher then that on an sr....

is the factory rev limited in tact after the swap is performed? I know that mis-shifting can always occur, but if you just step on the gas will the ecu cut off at the 7500 redline?

yes it would still be intact, since it is controlled by the ecu.

Im looking into doin a S14 SR20DET swap. And no im not doing it my self. I believe that the cost saved by doing it my self will eventually hunt me back due to all the mistakes i've made... I dun think its worth it.

Well one of my friends is going to install an S14 into an S14 so i really dont think it will be that hard. I will try to document everything if I have time.
