New member- first time poster...1997 Nissan XE 2wd,5sp 175K

I bought the truck and lost the title before I registered it....long story short it sat for about 6weeks. I had driven it around the farm a bit up and down gravel driveways the first month to keep it fresh but the last few weeks it had just sat.

Yesterday, it started fine but I could not get it in gear. the clutch pedal feels okay and springs back...at the transmission under the car I can see the cable/plunger moving in and out. Just wont let me get it in gear. I can put it in first with the car off and try to start it in gear, but the clutch does nothing....IDEAS???? Fluid level looks fine. I have not had to add any.

thank you!!!!
Mike

You might want to try bleeding the slave cylinder. Another possibility is the slave cylinder is bad. The clutch pedal may seem good, and the clutch fork may seem to be moving, but not far enough to engage & disengage the clutch. The piston in the slave cylinder maybe corroded or is binding. A bad master clutch cylinder will present the same symptoms. Replace the slave cylinder first if bleeding the system doesn't resolve the issue. The slave cylinder is very cheap and easy to install. The hardest part is loosening the line. If you end up replacing the master clutch cylinder MAKE SURE you look on the drivers door for the date of manufacture. There is a early & late date of manufacture which can result in ordering and receiving the wrong part.

if i read you right

it sat untouched for a few months? humid area? outside?

i am guessing the clutch plate has rusted on to the flywheel

put in 1St gear start it in gear hold foot on clutch slam the gas peddle on and off to try and shock it lose

if it dose brake lose then slip it for a few seconds like your trying to take off on a steep hill just to clean it up and make it smooth again

If it is rusted the easiest way to fix it. Find someone with a vehicle and a chain, put you're vehicle in low gear with the clutch disengaged pull the vehicle 10 mph. And slowly engage the clutch until it's free. If the disc is rusted it's possible the brake lining is also frozen to the drums.
