you just take off the belt for the power stearing...

if you want to remove the motor completely, you take out the two belts that hold it tight to remove the belt, then take the motor off, then there are 3 bolts on the side into the block you remove, the pump and bracket come right off....then you can remove the hoses, then you can remove the resevoir, its pretty straight forward, and no big deal....you dont need a power stearing setup

dont you need to swap it for a rack and pinion. by just taking the pump off the stearing will be insanely stiff. i could be wrong.

I have the setup that jesse described. It is annoying when you are sitting still, but if the car is so much as rolling it isnt that hard to deal with.

you will get better feedback from a car w/o power steering. You can also save a few lbs by removing the pump, lines, etc. If you "open up" or "vent" the rack it will be much easier to turn at low speeds. You can rig the reservior so that it feeds the rack and you don't need to worry about it drying out. People have set-ups on hondas like this.

tho i did drive a Pontiac fiero once, for like a mile.. I dont think that qualifys me to make that judgement.

First let me say that i am not a large guy, probably 135lbs..At a dead stop it is an ordeal to turn the wheel all the way, hand over hand.

However if the car is moving it require some 'man handling' but nothing someone of my size cant do.

Parallel parking would be a nightmare, and I think it would hurt somones AutoX times. I myself have dreams of drifting.. and for that I think i like it, it provides a very real feel of the road.. you can really feel what the tires are doing.. the wheel also returns to center very quickly if you take your hands off.

135lbs!!!!! Holy Sh1t.....

Any normal size person could turn it w/out such a problem...but yea, my ex girlfriend was like 135 and she wasnt strong enough to drive it either ; ) (u set yourself up for that one)

Jk.

Cyberkreig: a pontiac fiero is exactly what i am basing my knowledge about non power stearing on, so if you cars stearing feels as stiff as a fiero that is about what i want. again thankyou all for the info

I personally like no power steering is great. At high speeds i felt that the ps seemed too jerky. Just my .02

That is much more difficult. You would need to swap in a p/s rack, pump, lines etc. It would be a PITA

It probably wouldnt be too bad If you had an S13 without PS simply because no 240SX came with manual steering. Swapping the rack takes about an hour and its held by 7 bolts, pump+resevoir and lines is another hour and you easily do the whole thing while a motor is in the car. (assuming we are talking non hicas SR's into 240SX's)

I just have to give my opinion on this one. I'm not the strongest man in the world, but I'm not the weakest either. When I disabled my power stearing there were two things. The first is that I could feel the road a LOT better. The second is that I couldn't turn as tight. It was just too hard to make a 90 turn going 45, where as I can do that with my PS in.

For the record, I did not vent my PS. It was completely full. I'm sure that venting it would help this, but I'm affraid of it drying out. I read on here that you could counter this, but I haven't investigated it. Anyone done it?

IH8URDSM - from another post I read you seem like you favor the non-ps approach. Can you tell us why? Also, can you tell us how you use your car. Daily driver, drag, auto-cross, etc. Thanks!

its just preference...i dont have a problem driving on the street...and yes, taking a 90 degree turn at 45 might not be as easy as w/ PS (seems kind of dangerous anyway)..but you dont really have to be taking turns at 45 on the street either....

Its hard to make slow turns w/ one hand...."race car drivers" like me and Jeff Gordon prefer to drive with two hands on the wheel whenever possible, so the strength factor does not become an issue : D

I like to drive the car...feel the road...shift the gears....feel when the tires will loose traction...etc.

My car is my toy....used for whatever, whenever i feel like driving it : )
