HI, Deb Loveless here, I am wondering if anybody has ever even heard of a NON-INFINITI transmission working in a Q-45. I have been going round and round with the trans. shop. On my 3rd one so far now. The first shop purchased a used transmission from (while I was visiting in Corpus Christi tx) from a company called "greenleaf" .I just got off the phone with them, they said they send units to dealerships for Q-45's all the time. They could not say if it would indeed be a transmission out of a Q-45, or something else that was also exchangable. :rolleyes That first shop after the first failure...recieved another unit from greenleaf, that one worked for about 3 weeks (not perfectly) then BLEW UP. Now it is at a new shop..Eagle in Spring tx, they are going to agian get a unit from greenleaf. Greenleaf said hopefully 3rd time is the charm, if it doesnt work, original shop gets a refund, and ultimately, I guess I am sort of hoping it does NOT work. My original shop can get the refund, we can hit Joe up for a remanned infiniti (hopefully) and maybe all will be copacetic.

Any thoughts on this issue?A very distraught and sad New Q-ship owner Debra

They're full of it.

It's gotta be from a Q. The only thing close would be the trans from a 300ZX, and I think it's a different bellhousing...

An Infiniti Q45 reman'ed transmission from Joe is about $1750 to $1800 (after core return). Including labor (and installation of a transmission cooler,) I had mine replaced at a local Infiniti dealer for $2750.

Sorry to hear you have been having problems. Ouch! These guys are definitely clueless if they think that the transmission is not an Infiniti - others do not fit. Even the Nissan 300ZX auto transmission (the closest possible) would have required some modifications that, in all likelihood, was not done. So you probably have an Infiniti Q45 transmission in there, but it sure looks like they did not give you a good one, or it was installed incorrectly.

Did they clean out the radiator (where the ATF fluid flows) when they installed it? Better question: Did they even hook it up properly to the radiator? If you do not have an external cooler, the ATF must flow through the radiator to be at the proper temperature!

Replace the trans with a professionally remanufactured unit and bypass the transmission cooler in the radiator with an aftermarket one.

I had my trans rebuilt by LevelTen almost 4 years ago. I have put around 50k miles of hard driving, no problems.

At first, I thought about using a local shop in the Dallas area. But, the more shops I visited, the less confidence I had in the local repair shops.

In the end, I removed the trans. in my garage and sent it out for the rebuild.

It will be cheaper in the long run to pay the money for a proper rebuild by professionals, than to nickle and dime the situation endlessly.

When I say "proper rebuild", I don't mean Aamco or any other local place. I am referring to a rebuild by LevelTen or a rebuild offered by the dealer.

Your best bet woudl have probably been to have the original transmission rebuilt by a certified transmission place. That way there would have been a good warranty to accompany it and you would know they knew what they are doing. I hope u get all this sorted out. I know all too well about bad work being perfromed on a car. Im still trying to get my oil burning fixed in my newest rebuilt motor.
