I changed the oil and filter and put some 15w40 in the engine and then started the car... for the first time. Sounds great and idles smooth. The lifters seem to make a decent amount of noise though. Is this normal for these engines? Its not rediculously loud but it is noticeable.

Better check your oil pressure. CA18DET lifters are not noisy!

can the sound of noisy injectors be easily mistaken for noisy lifters? because i've worked on quite a few DSMs and those things are notorious for noisy lifters.in any case. how would i go about checking oil pressure?

i know this probably sounds pretty dumb but how exactly do they hook up? would it be better to get a mechanical (assuming there is one) or an electronic? And will i need to modify anything to hook either up?

i got an electronic because i dont want hot oil anywhere inside the passenger cabin, but either one will do. they arent very expensive at all.

and i agree, my lifters make no noise at all, my injectors and coils are however quite loud.

You will then run a single wire from the sending unit into your car to hook-up to the gauge it came with. The rest is elementary....................

yeah, basically, you T-off the pressure switch, one going to the switch, the other going to the sending unit for the gauge

I used to have a link for how to do it on a 300zx, but I can't find it now :(

Quote »yeah, basically, you T-off the pressure switch, one going to the switch, the other going to the sending unit for the gauge[/quote] I didn't T-off anything. I just removed the old pressure switch and added the electronic sending unit of the autometer oil pressure gauge kit. You now have a new responsibility and that's watching your oil pressure, instead of looking for the little silly light because once you see that light come on a with a turbo engine, you've already done some damage. And in case any of you didn't know, a performance engine seems to run its best when it's low on oil. Don't ask me how, but every engine from the SHO yamaha motor, 4G63, CA18DE, CA18DET, GA16I (just to name a few) all seem to be running harder when they were pretty low on oil. So if you notice your car running exceptionall wicked after a bit of neglect, get curious and check the oil. Just an FYI........;)
