Hi Guys.

This has been an interesing site and have been able to pick up some good tips for my Alti. Lately I have been facing a noisy engine with some whining noise.

My Alti has been under the care of the agency since the day she left the showroom untill 65K kms (end of service contract). At 70 k and 75 K I changed the oil ( semi - synthetic 15w-30) + filter at a local gas station. After the second fill at 75K, I started noticing engine vibrations and whinning engine during acceleration along with a noisy engine especially during cold starts. At 78K I decided to replace the oil with an original Nissan filter and TOTAL fully synthetic ( 10W-50) racing oil. I feel the noise has lessened and the vibrations are LESS too..... though it isnt the BEST. I feel the engine has been harmed in some way by my replacing the oil at a local gas station. I read somewhere that OEM filters cause whinning noise and low oil pressure. Should I get the 80 K service done at the agency or should I wait for sometime for the engine to settle down. A Nissan parts guy told me that the Manifold might be leaking leading to a noisy engine and he suggested going in for the 80K major service which will cost me 400 USD upwards. Suggestions please.

At 80 K Kms on the Odo... my guess is the timing chain needs replacement. Heard something about the guides for the timing chain breaking off in cold weather and causing a noise when it moves along with the chain. Can someone throw some light on this.

Went back to TOTAL fully syn racing oil and got back my racy engine and the noise stopped altogether. So the summary is to stick to a fully synth oil.
