Seems to me I saw a post on this a while ago but the "Search" couldn't dig anything up.

My Versa has developed a rattle coming from the a/c on low. It stops when I shut the a/c off. It seems to be getting louder these days.

Anyone been through this one with your friendly neighborhood Nissan Dealer?

I would like to be up to speed on this when I take it in.

Thanks

This sounds like your compressor is gone. Is there anyway you can record the sound and upload it

Do you shut it off immediately every time you start the car with the defrost on? If so, let it run for a few days and the noise should eventually disappear, unless the low compression for a prolonged period of time has somehow permanently damaged your a/c, but I doubt it. You should use it periodically to keep it in good shape.

I've had a growly/rattley compressor since day 1. Oddly more noticeable in the winter months. The dealer has recommended I have the compressor evacuated and recharged - $120 CDN. They claim my noise is caused by an unbalanced charge on the compressor. I'm going in 3rd wknd of March. Will post outcome.

Others here have had their compressors replaced (like Driving Instructor,) but the noise came back a while later. If the dealer wants a new compressor. I'll say 'fugg it' cause I can't be bothered dragging in weekday even if its warranty. The a/c works fine [read that COOL AIR WISE] and I'm half way thru the lease and frankly give a rat's arse... I don't mind paying for the recharge but I'm not having them pulling the car apart and sparking off other issues.
