noisey timing chain

ok I just got the car running but there is some noise comming from under the valve cover right around where the upper timing chain guide is. I noticed wile turning it by hand, that there was a small pop when the chain slack droped and then tightend up. Is this normal?

that's normal since you are doing it just by hand the motor spins faster than you doing it. you might want to try and take out that guide at the very top. Have you change your timing belt lately?
