I saw a post that someone is trying to decipher a noise the car is making and didn't want to jack his thread, and noticed a few other threads about noises. So I thought why not make a central thread of noises, creeks, clunks....if not, I still need my issue determined.

When I'm braking I hear a sound like something is being held over the tire. If you can remember back in the day when you rode a bicycle and you would stop your bike by putting your sneaker on the tire, or if a cloth material would rub across the tire like your jeans, that type of droning sound as the car slows down. No issue with the rubbing or grinding while driving or coasting. I do notice the rotor is grooved from the brake pads, so I'll change those, but checking if it would be anything else...something more important that would need to be changed immediately that could cause major problems.

If your rotors is showing grooves sounds like at one point time maybe your caliper got stuck and caused uneven wear. I'd change your pads and resurface your rotors and see if that helps. Since it only happens during braking, it's something with either of those two.

I agree with Ilya. In fact, I would do the Brakemotive kit from Ebay. This way you get new rotors and shoes on all four feet. I know Ilya (before he went "big Time" with the awsome M56, LOL) used a few stets and he was very happy with them. I loved them on my 07 M so much that even though my 09 didn't need brakes when I bought it, I had the Brakemotive kit installed. The car stops more smoothly and surely than it did with the OEM set-up. The entire 4-wheel kit is about $200 - I'm guessing that's less than you will pay for new pads and the turned rotors at the dealer or a brake shop.

Very happy is an understatement...I got a kit similar to the Brakemotive kit coming in the next day or two for my Y51. You just can't beat the value of ceramic pads/drilled and slotted rotors from EBay. Sure they might not last as long as name brand Brembo's, etc. but they also don't cost 5x as much. For $210 for all four corners (for this car, for the Y50 it was $170), you can't beat it. Just can't.
