for some reason im getting what sounds like valve knocks but when i checked they were fine. and when i put it back together i took a stethescope and started putting it all around the valve cap where the valves are and got nothing until i hit the timing gears and checked them out and it was all in working order. so i talked to one of my buddys and he said he had a pathfinder with the same noise and he said it was a bad vaccum seal but i dont see how that could be but idk. this is the only thing keeping me from installing my turbo kit.

any suggestions? please help!!!

Timing chain could be hitting the guards, very common issue. Go to the 240sx Tech section and you'll find an article on how to remove them.

Make sure to listen and if it's coming from the front of the valve cover then it's guides. Nissan deleted the guides for later model ka24de's, so make sure to take out the top and right side guide(TWO GUIDES!! not just one).

Leave them off, and push your timing chain tensioner in and out to make sure it's operating smoothly.

I sprayed some WD40 on mine like the timing chain write-up specified, and after a couple of hard pushes, it moved in and out with ease.

Now my chain does not rattle.
