does anyone else have a bunch of rattling sounds and noises inside your car? ushually when my windows are up and radio is off there seems like theres always at least 2 or 3 different rattling noises inside my car, most sound like their inside the dash and doorpanels. the noises annoy the s### out of my and i dont know what they are coming from. i know that the trunk lid rattles a lot and i have already fixed that one. anyone have the same problem or any suggestions? i have a 96 240sx se.

I know my exhaust sounds like it is going to ping itself apart when I start it. Rattles. Sound like there is some heat shield that is loose.

After that the only sound I hear is in the dash. Sounds like a clicking.

Crank the radio.....

Seriously youll never* get them all. When you think you have found them all, just then, a new one pops up. I got rid most, but still have a cpl annoying ones, and some come and go types (like my horn pad).

One I just fixed was comming from the vent area. Frustrated and doing 85mph, I ripped out the center vent trim peice, and located the noise (i was really irritated by it). It was comming from under the ac controll unit. The unit has thin plastic lossly in place at both the top and bottom. I took some duct tape (hehe used duct tape for ac like its meant :) ) and placed it at the top and wrapped it down to the bottom tightly. It stopped the plastic from resonating and rattling though.

I wrapped weater stripping on the parts of the door panel that contacts the metal and a few small peices around it as well. That removed those, but I crackedthe plastic connector holding the handle / window controlls on the passenger door, one side of the plastic U. urg gotta fix that now.

What sucks the most is that all my rattles come on at different rpms as my exhaust emits different res freq's at different rpm's. If it was all at once that would be fine as I would just slow down or speed up, but NOOOOO.

Also all my clips in most of the panels are rtv'd in place hehe.

*There is one sure fire way, but its costly and ruins the 240. That is completely covering the cars inner shell in sounddeadening material. At least one layer would help but if I went this route I would go 2 layers. It would weigh a ton but would be as quiet as a luxury car. Up side is that there would be no rattling and your stereo would sound alot sweeter.

yeah prolly your internal panels rattling or heat shield. Remember we got mostly older cars so rattling is gonna happen. Your timing chain could rattle as well, but is more of a chug chug noise from under your hood. if you pump up the bass and rattling is more you know its your plastic crap on the inside.

No mines not the timing chain and its not the heat sheild, i already ripped that off. and my car is a 96 so its not that old. its just like what 96_s14_se said. the damn noises come at different rpm's and there all in different places, most sounding like there back inside the dash. they aren't that loud but after a while they annoy the #### out of you.

96 is effing 7 years old and our cars are made of cheap plastic on the inside. I guess its a good thing cause bmw's and mercades and other cars load up on extra weight cause of leather and other luxury crap that just efs up your times. Still all our panels are held in by crappy plastic push locs that work loose and cable ties in the dash break off and rattle. oh but dont get me started i love my 240 even though.
