Driving through the parking garage today I noticed that when I turned the wheel hard to the right there was an odd noise coming from the front driver's side wheel. It sounded kind of like a rubbing noise, but it wasn't metal on metal. One thing I know it didn't sound like was the clicking of a bad CV joint. I did a quick visual inspection and everything looked good. Any ideas on possible sources of this noise?

I have the same noise when turning right in my 99' I30....

Taking rights, my car makes like a shovel grinding against the ground noise, and at low speed when driving straight (slow movement from a traffic light or highway traffic in general), never makes the noise when turning left though.

Its not a brake problem of any sort, I know that for sure.

what can it be?

I posted this question on another forum and was told that it was the result of broken steering bump stops which apparently fail quite often and are cheap replacement parts. I'm not sure if it's a DIY replacement though.

Ive heard the same sound on occasion when making hard turns. Im thinking that mine has something to do with the traction (because my tires suck). VDC might be the issue, too... Bad ABS/Tracking sensors/tires I believe are my problems.

Check the bump stops first. Apparently they're just cheap plastic parts that crack a lot.
