Hi,

I have a 2001 Pathfinder. It has about 130k on it.

I recently starting hearing a sort of knock or rattle, usually I hear it when turn around a corner. I also heard it when I went over a speed bump.

I don't know if it's a broken strut/shock or some type of joint?

Should I just take it to the dealership and let them check it out? Or is there something I can look for to tell what it maybe?

Thanks for any advice in advance!BK

check your lug nuts, i've had this same kind of problem twice, and both times it was after recent work on the wheels and the stealership/shop forgot to tighten it up.

Thanks for the quick responses!

Interesting that mention the lug nuts, I did get my tires rotated recently at Firestone where I bought my tires.

I was getting a FREE oil change plus rotation since they screwed up the balance on my tires. I had to end up taking it to the dealership for them to balance properly, Firestone claimed their balancer was broken that day. I wonder if their impact wrench was broke when they rotated my tires?

I had thought about the lug nuts being loose but only checked by hand, I will get a wrench and check.

How can I tell if it's the sway/stabilizer bars? Should I just have the dealership check that out? I'm going to check my power steering fluid level as well.

Update: Problem fixed,

I checked the lug nuts and power steering and it wasn't that so I took to a local shop.

They found that the both motor mounts retaining nuts on left side were missing!

Question is... how did the nuts get removed? The last service I had was at the dealership to replace my AC compressor. I don't see any reason why they would remove these nuts to do that?

I called the dealership and they said to bring it in to confirm. But I haven't done that yet. The local shop charged me 50 bucks for labor/parts to fix...

ThanksBK

I think I'm hearing the same thing. My noise isn't too loud, and it doesn't happen on every turn of every bump. Does this sound like what you had?

Yes, that sounds like the same problem, it was more of a light squeak, sometimes a knock or rattle, I was trying to reproduce for the mechanic when he was riding with me but it was difficult, I had to make a hard left turn. Sometime hitting a speed bump would cause it. Or even turned left then quickly turning right.

I'm glad the noise it gone now, it was bothering me.
