Noise under acceleration I have noticed

My 01 LE has been making a noise and its done it every since I have had it and I think its normal but just want a opinion. It happens mostly and most noticeably when its running low rpm. Say you have it in 2nd and you let off the gas and it slows down then you give it slight gas you can hear a clanking sound. I am afraid its my rear end because I dont know how strong it is. I only have 57 thousand miles on it. To me though it sounds more up front. I need to drive one at work and see if it dose it. You all think this is somthing to be worried about because it isnt getting worse or better. It might even be normal but it is just noticable with the cruse on going through small hills.
