Noise - Turn Off Engine, Open Door, Click Click

Symptoms: Drive car, stop, press Off to turn off engine. When I open the driver's door, it sounds like something electrical is being turned off in the instrument cluster. Two loud clicks.

Does anyone know what it is?

Happens on a 2008 Altima Coupe, 2.5, CVT with Convenience Package.

Does not occur on my 2010 Altima Sedan with 2.5, CVT, with Convenience Pkg and Conv Plus.

its normal- its your door and security toggle switches engaging/disengaging

Thanks. I thought it might be something normal - but should I be concerned that it is so loud? And why doesn't it happen on the 2010 Altima Sedan? (No sound whatsoever. Do the later versions or the Sedan use a different design?)

idk bout loud? i know after u turn off car, then open door. the start button makes a lil sound. but its because its recognizes that youre leaving the vehicle, n stats turning off sum stuff

im pretty sure its the steering wheel lock, when it happens try turning the wheel, shouldnt move, if it does there is something wrong

ah yes, thats it.. i havent been in the coupe today. so i couldnt remember correctly lol i remember seeing th esteering wheel turn a lil when i open door

Thanks. I checked it out and yes it is the steering wheel locking mechanism. I'm still under warranty, so will have the dealer check it out for the loudness.

If they say, "It's normal, they all do that." then I'll have the dealer explain why my 2010 Altima Sedan doesn't do it. I just checked and the sedan does not lock the steering wheel at all.

Also, after that click-click, you won't be able to manipulate your power windows/moonroof. Before opening your doors and after the car is off, you can still do that. So, if you plan on leaving them cracked for ventilation or closing them for rain, do that before you open the door.

Or before you turn off the car. But that's optional.
