hey guys,I got my car running and idling fine but now i have another problem, haha they never stop. Heres the newest one. I start the car, it runs, idles fine for about 1 min, then i hear an slight rattling in the top of the valve cover. About the place where the first rocker arm on the passenger side sits. i took off the valve cover and everything looks fine, no lose bolts the rocker arms in place but the sound gets worse and worse if you let the car run, shut if off and let it cool down and it doesn't do it for about 1 min. when i first bought the motor i found that rocker are sitting in the valve cover, the guy wouldn't return the motor cus he said he didn't cover that. Two of the valve shims were missing, the grooved one and the flat one so we replaced it and put the valve cover back on. Now it makes that awful sound. Could the Rocker arm just be fubared maybe or could the problem be something far worse. It sounds like it's coming rights from the top of the motor but I maybe wrong, but it's definately a rattling, not like the ticking of a valve. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciatedNigel

those shims are for your lash adjuster. If you have the wrong size in there then your valve lash is all messed up. I would check your valve lash or the easier thing to check....did you remove the timing chain guide that sits on top of the head?

I'd say you need to bleed the Hydrolic lash adjusters! They are super noisy if not bleed correctly, was the head or engine ever on its side or upside down, if so thats probably your best bet. Pull the valve cover and push down on the Rocker arms, if they move then you need to bleed that one, I would just do them all to makes sure, otherwise it will increase wear on the entire valvetrain. THE FSM shows how to bleed them, its easy! You could also just have noise from having a shim that is the wrong size but I'd bet its the HLA's! Good Luck.-Jason-
