Dear all,

Here is another issue from my 96' I30 (50k miles) -

When I drive over speed bumpers every time, I heard the noise from the front suspension.

1) Is this a concern? Should I replace both front struts now?2) If I have to replace both front struts, should I replace the rear ones as well at the same time?3) Are the four struts all the same?

Thanks in advance,

jack

i had my 95 maxima for 3 years and never could figure out what this noise was. i changed out my struts and springs, spindle and bearings, and tie rods. never stopped the noise. strut mounts maybe?

I think the problem is the front sway bar end links and bushings. The same happens on our 2000 Maxima and my '02 G20. Once it warms up hope to work on the G to isolate the problem and then move to the Maxima.

My noise seemed to come from the spring/strut contact point. The rubber cover on the spring started to break/come off and that allowed the spring to hit the strut "cap".

Generally the struts hopld up pretty well. My vote would be strut mounts, end links or bushings. These items are generally the cause of most front end clunking noises I have encountered with other vehicles of American or German descent...

Lots of reading on maxima.org and general car knowledge (20+ years of wrenching) lead me to agree with this statement.

It's either the upper strut mounts, the sway bar end links or the sway bar to body bushings.
