I was taking the kids to the sitters yesterday and they asked if they could put there windows down. I said yes. That will be the last time the windows are ever down, ok, one more time with the SPL meter. I had pain in my ears for about 5 hours after that, and a headache for the rest of the day.
So this morningafter the kids were dropped off I put the windows down and fired up the SPL meter. WHOLLY ****!!!! There is a oscillation that starts at about 43 mph and goes up to 122db at 60. I didnt think to take something to cover my ears with so this was about the limit I could stand. I am going to grab my ear muffs I use at the range and see what it is like at 60+. The threshold for pain in most people is around 130, and damage to the drums is not uncommon with expousere to 115 for short periods of time. Is this normal for these cars? I think that there should be a warning or something if it is.
