Hello,The car has about 100k miles on it. The differential has 6 bolt output flanges. For the last several thousand miles the rear of the car has made a swooshing noise. Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh... It is most noticable at low speeds and other noises overcome it at high speeds. The noise does not change if I turn right or left. It does not change if I use drive or neutral or apply the brakes. It does not change if the car is just started fresh in the morning or has been driven for a while. Of course there is no noise when the car is not moving.

The differential fluid is fine, I checked the wheel bearings when I did the rear brakes- no problem noticed. The brake job did not change the noise. New tires made no difference. Tire balance and alignment were fine.

Please let me know what you think causes this noise.

I used search before posting this thread and could not find any information on this sort of noise.

Thank you

JSP

Check your drive shaft carrier. They are pretty common to make nosie.

Get the rear end up on jack stands and see if you can run the wheels to see if the noise is present. If you can then try to locate the source/loaction of the noise.
