If it only does it when there is a load on the engine, then it is quite possibly rod knock. I would still check everything else though before you put it out of comission.lifelicksballs wrote:okay it's actually getting worse now it's everytime i press the gas in gear i would hear a rattling but never in idle or neutral
how would i tell if it's a bearing or not
Have you ruled out transmission noise? Does it happen only while its in gear and driving or can you duplicate the noise while revving it in neutral? My friends 2nd gear grenaded in his DSM (no kidding!) and whenever he put it in 2nd, it made a noise that sounded just like rod knock.lifelicksballs wrote:update: okay i ran without the hood and told my friend to listen while i did a slow drive by but now the sound can barely be heard in 1st and 2nd but 3rd it's clearly audible...also at idle we could hear a VERY fain light rattle inside the intake (?) or near there
also i dont know if it'll be relevant but for some reason a bolt holding the intake and the engine together kinda came loose

Your #1 or #3 or both piston rod bearing(s) are done. Check it yourself, but I'm pretty sure that I'm correct or extremely close. And the more you drive it, the more you screw up your crank journals.lifelicksballs wrote:you're kidding!isnt rod knock like a heavy knocking sound?mine sounds like it's at the top of the engine and sounds like a penny is stuck in the laundry
would compression check help??
