Sometime when I step on the clutch there is a scrape type sound comming out from underneath my car. Has anyone had this problem, it almost sounds like the heat sheild is vibrating, but I'm not sure? Thanks

I have it was when i adjusted the pedal rod too far in , it almost sounded like the pressureplate fingers were touching the fly wheel . adjust your clutch pedal rod but not much, i set mine to the point where it almost makes that sound , this makes sure the clutch is completely disengaged during shifts .I think out of adjustment pedals along with worn slave cylinders are the reason most people cant power shift there 240s

Is it only occurring in a limited power band? (i.e. 2500-3000)

You mentioned it sounds like it's scraping...if it's more like a buzz or clank sound, then it's pretty likely the heat shield has rattled itself loose. I removed the shields on both my S13's and the sound went away.

Clutch sounds usually are whirrs or groans, not really clanks (at least in my experience). A *scrape* sound...huh, dunno, need more info!

Perhaps the throwout bearing could be worn out.

Yup, if you're getting a noise just when the clutch is in, most likely the throwout bearing is getting worn out. Mine did that, got it changed out when I changed the clutch and it's all gone now.
