Good afternoon,

After spending hours reading the forums trying to resolve an issue, I decided to join and see if there are any insights that might help me in my case.

We recently had a 2011 Rogue Serviced and replaced the Serpentine Belt, which was pretty bad. The vehicle only has 66,000 miles.

We had it done and the first install was wrong. A terrible squeal when A/C or defrosters were turned on. The solution was a new A/C compressor. I said no thank you and took to another dealer who "re-installed" and the chirping was completely gone. Great, right! Well not so fast. Upon leaving and it has been about a week, the car has developed a rattle type noise when between 1,500 and 2,000 RPM and is most pronounced going slow and only when accelerating from a slow position. Not when accelerating from a complete stop. If you let off the gas it is gone. There appears to be no shifting issues at all, but this rattle/knocking noise during this RPM when accelerating.

So I took to a local dealer, road with the technician and was told this is "normal" and recommended a CVT Transmission change. This is common the CVT he said. However, I do not think it is transmission related as it "shifts" fine and only started after a new serpentine belt was put on.

I am not sure when I accelerate if too much tension is being placed somewhere, something is loose or what has you. Any insight is much appreciated. I can provide clarification for any points if this would help.

Thanks again for being a great resource for a Nissan owner.

Nissan rogues have an exhaust system which has a very annoying rattle at about that rpm. My 2011 has it. Of course it has no effect on anything other than my ears. So I mostly ignor it. I think there is a TSB on this issue.

It's kind of a "tinny" sound. Do you think that could be what you're hearing? When I crawled under mine to trace out the noise, I found the flex pipe near the front of the vehicle had rusted/broke loose. I'm still not sure if that is the culprit.

Thank you for the response.

I wish it were. It is not tinggy per say.

It is more so when the gas is hit it seems like to it is trying to convert something. While converting something is vibrating/rubbing.

It is weird this only started after the serpentine belt change. Could it be the belt is too tight/pulleys have a lot of force of them, but how does accelerating/hitting the gas impact this?

Maybe I am bias, but could something have been screwed up when the belt was put on? When you read the guide it says something about not turning counter-clockwise. I have no idea if this was done, but what would happen?

I have had 3 people that drove the car just before the belt change and everyone says it is new... Nissan wasn't much help and jumped right to the conclusion that it was normal transmission issues.

Frustrating for a car with only 66k miles.

Take a look at the new serpentine belt make sure it is tracking on the pulleys correctly. That is a "ribbed" belt. I suppose it's possible one of the ribs is riding over the edge of one of the pulleys. If it is it will break sooner or later.

I will take a look. I hope it is something this simple.

When I had it at Nissan I drove with the tech I think he focused purely on being 1) Transmission or 2) heat shield.

I don't think he even looked at the belt again so I am hoping it is related to it. Frustrating, I try and do some preventive maintenance and get stuck with a more annoying issue.

It could be the wrong belt size. With the car off see if you can move the belt around until you can see the part #

I'm 99% it's right: 11720-JG30B.

I think that's right. It is listed as "A", but I think the "B" relaxed it.

According to that part number it's a genuine Nissan belt, so that shouldn't be your issue. I was thinking maybe they put on a belt that was not the correct size.
