I just had a RPS max street clutch kit and flywheel installed along with replacing both the master and slave cylinders and a steel braided clutch line. Now, when the clutch is cold (typically first use of the day) it makes loud noise when the clutch is pressed in... noise goes away when you let the clutch out. After about 5-10 minutes of driving it, the noise goes away. The car shifts and runs great, other than this noise. The local shop says the noise sounds like the throw out bearing, which is new and came with the RPS clutch kit. Since this noise started, I've backed the clutch pedal out about 3/8s inch, but the noise is still there. I'm having the shop rebleed the line since I've adjusted the pedal but I've been told this isn't needed.

Anyone have a similar experence or any suggestions?

I would say you are right on the TO bearing. Was it a sealed prelubed type, or not and it didn't get greased at time of installation? Also, was the pilot bushing changed and time of clutch change and was it lubed?I would also spend a little time and adjust the cllutch properly rather than just backing it off 3/8" or whatever was done.If it isn't set right and is too high, it might not fully engage and slip, prematurely burning it out. There shold be about 1/2 free pedal paly at the top when pedal is up.

I followed the directions from Specialty Z on how to adjust the clutch, and the clutches they typically deal with are the RPS clutches... the 'how to' on the pedal adjustment is found here: http://www.specialtyz.com/clutchadj.htm

That's a good write-up, the only thing I have seen some people post about is they don't always get the free play at the top set up right and find it slips. I think that comes from initially setting up the switches and then adjusting the rod too much so there is no free play at the top of the pedal stroke. There needs to be a slight amount so the clutch full releases.

Also, if that free play isn't there, there could be a little pressure on the TO bearing all the time even when the pedal is up causing it to ride on the pressure plate springs.

I know some people with( tt's/vac assisted clutch ) complain that when the car is fully warmed up, the pedal height changes. Perhaps due to the vac system/check valve integrity with age. When I had my stock and worn clutch in before installing an RPS, mine did that.

if the noise appears when you press in the pedal and goes away when you let offthen yes it sounds like a t/o bearing, and no adjusting the clutch pedal and bleeding the system will nto help! you get to live with it or pull the transmission out again, click the link in my sig fro great deals on clutches, flywheels and parts

...but if the pedal is adjust just slightly tight, it will act like when you push down on it just enough so the TO bearing is riding on the clutch springs, and likely shorten its life and possibly get noisy. You could find out by letting the engine warm up, and then see if there is some free play at the top of the pedal. If so, you might be able to adjust it to get rid of this....worth the 10 minutes to find out.

anyone know if the OEM bearing will work with the RPS clutch setup? I've been told the RPS comes with a "thinner" bearing to work with the thicker pressure plate and that OEM t/o bearing should not be used with the RPS setup.

I've never seen an aftermarket cltch set up taht would not work with a stock bearing, short of a multidusk custom setup
