Hey this is really frustrating, I cant check the continuity between the coolant temp sensor on the harness because pin 30 has no connection on it?! I checked the sensor itself got a new one and that was reading practically same numbers but I am getting code 13. How can I check for continuity on the harness?

you're testing the wrong one, there are 2 sensors in the hard pipe, the one wiht 1 wire is actuallyt he temp sender, ti goes to the gauge in the dash and has nothign to do wht the ecu, the second one, has 2 wires and a plug that looks like an injector clip, it's the temp sensor it's the one that tells the ecu if the engine is cold and it's the one that gives you a code 13 fault

gernally if you have a code 13 fault, it's either a bad connection caused by a dirty or broken connector or a bad sensor, to test the sensor you measure impeadance across the 2 terminals, the ecu will have the apoximate readings for a given temperature

when cold it should read 1.400 ohms on the 2k setting right? Then when hot about 255 on the lower setting? Thats what mine reads its a brand new sensor. Im going to crack down on the yellow plug and splice a new one in see if that helps.

BTW I was going accoring to this diagram

The one i was testing was the engine temp sensor that goes to the ECU. It has two wires going from the sensor and the clip but the pinout at the ecu only has the wire 28. There is no pin just a blank hole for sensor ground :wtf2: is that how its supposed to be? Why is it stated in the diagram but does not appear on the harness at the ecu?

I replaced the sensor with a new one and replaced the clip with a new one. I reset the ecu for 30 min and its still throwing the code after I drive it. Car dumps fuel and revs like s*** after I start it again when warm, I have to drive it a bit for the idle to smooth out somewhat but it still smokes and smells.

Thanks for any help in advance guys

the ground isn't specific to the sensor, it's connects to.....now get this....the ground! some ecu's use a sepperate sensor ground, you can measure the resistance in the sender wire form the sender end to the ecu pin end and the groudn wire to the ground

sorry my dumb fault, I guess I was looking at the diagram upsidedown or sideways/whatever. I measured the resistance of the temp sensor and then then the resistance of the harness connected to the sensor (from the ecu connection) and it came out digit for digit so the wiring is not faulty. Yet the ecu keeps throwing 13s at me... guess its registering low voltage even with the new sensor. I just rebuilt the motor myself and it runs alot better then before, but im too frustrated to sit there and finger every wire trying to figure out why it throws codes. I am leaving the ecu unplugged for 10 days (vacation time finally) if it throws the code after that Im just taking the car to a tuner so they can slap it awake. If theres anything I can do before I can take it to the shop (aka anyone in NJ have a TT that can help me with part testing because there are only 2 N/As in my area as far as I know) I would greatly pay back. I live in Park Ridge, NJ btw.

hey do you guys know if the car will start without having the temp sensor connector on? im getting a code 13 also and my car wont start im wondering if it might be because of that??

the car will be hard to start and run without the temp sensor connected, it faults to rich, so it'll be easy to start when cold and hard or impossible to start when warm

I second that. But does it usually start up and die back down right after or just crank and flood?
