i got a 2000 pathfinder only owned it for a couple weeks and drove it only twice. It had a check engine light when i bought it. Im having a no start issue it cranks and in the first 2 seconds it sounds like its about to start. Then after that it just cranks and cranks and cranks. ive got P1440 Evap purge control circuit and P0180 fuel temp sensor. I used a superchips from my cummins to scan it. I did have it running with starting fluid and it seemed to run ok but when i shut it off and tried to immediatly restart it just cranked. I tried starting without Maf sensor it wouldnt start. I also figured maybe fuel pump was bad so i pulled it and put a different one(not new) and i can hear it buzz for 5 secs. I dont have the lift pump completly tightened to the tank right now put fairly good seal. ive just changed plugs wires and cap. was getting some white smoke while ideling when i did have it running but it hasnt run in a while.

Check under the distributor cap for excessive dirt or dust buildup and check the rotor for excessive scorching. You may need a new cap, rotor, or even entirely new distributor.

Also change the fuel filter - it rarely causes starting issues but if it's original it may be restricted enough to cause problems.

I also had P1441 along with the P1440. The charcoal canister failed and was sending little pieces through the line and plugged the Purge Volume Control Valve, causing the "check engine soon" light to come on. My pathfinder still started and ran before i fixed it, so i don't think it's the P1440, that could just be a bad gas cap or it didn't seal properly after a fill-up. Sounds like you have spark since it fired with starting fluid, so i'm thinking it's a fuel problem, how is the fuel filter new/old?

Here is an interesting read...http://www.justanswer.com/nissan-infini ... ector.html (Distributor)
