Good day,

So, here goes; My Silvia had started to give lackluster starts intermittently, the connections were all good, so I thought it was just binding... when it finally stops and won't even respond to some tapping I decide to take it off and I find that the top starter bolt on my SR has lost it's head and it refuses to let my starter go free. I want to know if anyone has a quick way to get it out without having to remove the transmission or anything major? I'm not sure if I can get access to a drill or even if I'd be able to get one to fit under there...I know I definitely don't have a tap and die/extractor set... :gotme
I had already gotten another starter just in case I had to rebuild or junk the one that's being held hostage, so I'd just need the starter off n the bolt out of the hole. Is it ok to try and say, lift/pry the starter until the bolt snaps and then try to extract it? I do need my car back on the road A.S.A.H.P.

Search turns up nothing specific except for one post in 2003 where a starter bolt snapped, but the person was more concerned with locating and removing the other bolt, so it was pretty much fruitless...

Thank you very much for reading, and for your help.

If the head is off, can't you just unbolt the remained bolt and pull the starter out? The head should be the only thing holding the starter on the block. The holes on the transmission aren't threaded so witht he head broken, you should be able to just slide it out. Maybe it hit it with a bar to get it going.
I'd recommend unplugging the positive cable before doing so before you short out the starter trying to hit it.

It actually is threaded in there...the other bolt is out. I have turned the starter as much as it would move, pried it up a bit, knocked it...bugger is IN there...
battery has been disconnected as well lol. Thanks for the concern. Safety first!

*sigh*... gonna try it again tomorrow...

I say cut the wires holding the solinoid on to the starter body and disassemble the starter, if its at all possible.

I second allenms240. I recently replaced my starter on my sr20det. If they're anything alike the bolts slide into the bell housing and thread into the starter. Try some penetrating spray.
