Hey guys, i'm in a pickle, i parked my 1993 240sx vert after driving it to the store, when i tried to start it the next morning it would not turn over, now just so you know this is a daily driver and very well taken care of ( i work in a new car dealership ), there has been no sign of trouble before this, i.e. hard starts, engine dying, etc..., when i turn the key it acts like it wants to turn but never does, i checked the gas and also checked for spark( i'm not a tech but i know the basics ), all seem ok, if anyone has any ideas please help, thanks

How about your battery and alternator? Try to jump start it and see what happens.

I have a friend with a 240 coupe and the same thing happened to him...it was his starter. But could be what 94_240sx said also. I'd check the battery first. Good luck.

Does it ever turn over at all or does it just click? Mine started perfectly until one day it clicked. I banged on the starter and it fired up again. But then several months later it would not start no matter what I did. I replaced the starter (it's a bear to do because of where one of the bolts is located) and now everything is fine.

If you can't jump it pull the starter and take it to a national parts store; they can check it for you. I think a rebuilt one is about $130.

Good luck,

cmk

Hey guys, thanks to all for responding, sorry it took so long to get back here, yes the battery is good and the starter is working as well, it does crank and as i said it seems like it wants to turn over but it stops short of doing that, i checked voltage through the plug wires, that was all positive, and in desperation i tried ether ( starting fluid ), sprayed into the air filter housing, still no good, i'm at a lose, my only alternative is to have it flat bedded to a local garage, i'm trying to avoid that for monetary reasons, if anyone has any other suggestions i'm wide open, thanks

do you have a remote starter hooked up? There was a crappy wiring job on mine when i got it and it had trouble starting. the remote start was sliced into the ignition by having it cut and taping it back together without solder and the connection was apparently bad enough to cause problem but still allowed it to occasionally start. So, check the ignition wires for bad connections maybe?

When you turn the key, do you hear the humming noise for the first few seconds? You mention that the starter sounds like it wants to turn over, but won't ? That would indicate either not enough power to turn the engine over? You state the battery is good and starter is good, engine will not turn over at all.... silly question you haven't heard any ticking from engine or rattling have you? Also did you check the oil and coolant levels. No overheating? If starter is good and has good power and engine won't spin... sound like something is blocking starter or engine. If a the starter gear has a high spot and flywheel has high spot, that will cause a bind up. You could see if you can manually move the flywheel a couple of teeth and try again. I believe the KA are a zero clearance engine, meaning that if for some unGodly reason the timing chain were to break the pistons would hit the valve train. The engine would not start then either (would seem like seized motor). The seized engine thought (shudder) would be where I was headed with the whole overheating/no oil question. Hope this helps out. Hopefully we can help ya out.
