2003 G35 Coupe.

Ok so I did some maintenance on the G35 today. I changed the oil, cleaned the throttle body with TB cleaner and rinsed off the engine.

I went to start it and it would not start just crank and crank..

I tried again 5 minutes later and it would start then die..

I just tried it (maybe a hour later) and it just cranks..

So... is it that I cleaned the Throtle body? I opened it with my hand when I was spraying it.. could that have messed up the drive by wire setting?

or is it that something is shorted from the water? should I just let it sit and "Dry off" and hope it fixes it?

In the past when I would rinse off my engine I would start it right away to dry it.. well I can't exactly do that..

for a minute there i was gonna ask you if you had gas... It might sound stupid, but it's something that you should always check for lol

A friend of mine thought he had something wrong with his car and to his own personal failure, he didn't have any gas...

Glad you found the trouble. INMHO it is not a good idea to wash an engine. Too much electronics under the hood. If any moisture gets into any of the electrical connectors and plugs you will eventually get corrosion in there causing strange interrmittant problems. Since you have an 03, if you still have the original battery it is probably a good idea to replace it and make sure there is no corrosion on your battery cables. Just my $.02

I sort of agree with telco, but I practice differently.

I did have an issue with my I30 where washing the engine caused a sensor to malfunction, but simply reseating it, fixed the problem.

I would avoid getting the battery and intake wet (especially if you have a warm-air). Also, the last time I washed under the hood, I took my car wash sponge with a little soap and did a quick clean, then lightly sprayed the soap away. It cleans better that way and you reduce the risk of corrosion.
