Hey everyone,

I'm an original owner of a 93 convertible. Yesterday i backed into someone and caved in the panel that is below the trunk, but above the rear bumper. It's pushed in a good 4-6".

After the incident, i was able to drive to the gas station and then home without any hint of trouble (. Later in the day the wife took the car about 3/4 mile to pick up our daughter from school. She shut the car off, tried to see if the trunk would open and now the car won't start.

We've got full electric to the dash, windows, etc. I even took the battery out and charged it overnight, so its not a drained battery, but something has "tripped". When i turn the key there's just no sound of the car even trying to turn over.

So..... is there an ignition fuse i may have blown with some kind of elecrical short? Or is there a safety of some kind that has been activated because of the rear end damage?

ANy advice/info is welcome.

MM

Possible that something in the taillight harness shorted a fuse out up front or something.

As far as I know there are no emergency fuel cutoffs on our cars. I would start with the underhood fuse boxes. If one is blown trace it back to find the root of the problem. If all your fuses are good check the starter circuit.

Just in case anyone cares, it appears as though I'm dealing with just bad timing. Not ignition timing, simply two totally unrelated issues.

My NO START condition looks like a bad starter or solenoid. I've recharged the bettery and even swapped in a known good battery from my truck, so that's not the problem. I have voltage to the solenoid on the main wire and i also get 12v on the smaller wire when i turn the key to start.

Tonight I'll put in a new starter/solenoid and see how it goes.

Just for the hell of it, hit the starter with a rubber mallet hard and try again.

I've replaced a starter on my buddy's vert. What happened was starter was tested good at Autozone, but it wouldn't work on the car, so we had to get another one. Second one worked just fine. My point is even a new starter from auto parts store can be bad, so keep in mind.

Yeah, I'll try that to see what happens...

i suspect its the solenoid as there's absolutely NO sound comning from the starter. If the solenoid was working and the starter was bad, wouldn't i hear the solenoid clicking when the key is turned?

Either way, i'll be pulling the starter this evening and putting in the "new" one.

Thanks folks.

I'll keep you posted of anything unusual.
