Alright, here's the deal. My spedometer does not work. I've changed the speed sensors out. I bought it and it used to be an auto sr, and he said the speedometer worked. he swapped the 5 speed in it but never drove it. The lower harness was hacked up pretty good so I just replaced it with a good lower harness. I've changed the speed sensors out and tried following the wiring but i'm getting no where. I know it's the yellow/green wire and I have it plugged in to the right plug in, according my to friends 240. I was using his to trace the wire since his speedometer works. Anyone have any ideas? Could it be shorted by the ecu or cluster at all? is the wire the same yellow green after it plugs into the harness all the way into the car?

Make sure the under dash plug is hooked up right (the one that is branched off teh ECU)

That part of the speedo circuit is at the end of the line.

Here is how the speedo circuit works:Two wires from the speed sensor - Yellow/Blue, and Yellow/BlackThey run to a connector called 211 that is a two wire gray connector.Next it should go to one connector in a set of three that is mounted on the frame rail, below the battery, called 202 for manuals. It has 8 wire ports (4 ports for the auto version). The wires are still the same color.

From there the wiring runs around the front of the car from passenger to driver side, then go back into the body behind the front left wheel. They go into M11 the Super Multiple Junction. Its the Huge white connector with 132 ports for wires, biggest connector in the car. It goes through the SMJ and into the gauge cluster where the wires Y off and one goes to the center plug, another goes to one of the side plugs (on a non HUD cluster).

After the wiring goes through the cluster the result is the Yellow/Green wire. This wire comes out of the cluster and heads straight to the ECU plug and on into the ECU.

The ECU is the last piece of electronics to get the speedo signal. That is why some say that if you cut the yellow green wire you will cut the speed limiter, because the ECU doesnt know how fast you are going. But the cluster will still read correctly. I dont know if this is true or not, never tried it.

i had a problem where the plug wires for the speedo and water temp sensor were transversed, everything plugged in accordingly but on the other side of the connector they were the opposite. ie. the temp sensor was plugged into the speedo and vice versa.

I still have my speed limiter so I think my problem is in the cluster. I have an 89 cluster I"m gonna throw in and see if that is the problem.

anyone know if you can take the odometer out of one and put it in another. like if i buy another 91 cluster can i take the odometer out of mine and put it in the new one?
