was it a full distibutor with cap and rotor or just the base assm. if spark is ging from coil to distributor and not out of the distributor. i wold blame the new part or possibly a swapped over part to the new distributor.

it was a full distrbutor from ebay, i switched it out because it all started with the old distributor. and could the coil not getting enough power cause the distributor to no have a strong spark?

You may want to check some grounds at this point. The first thing I would check would be the body grounds from the neg. battery cable. The ground to the body can be very important, especially if the ECM has been grounded to the body circuit for any of a dozen reasons. Make sure you check the ECM grounds. There will be a couple of grounds attached to the plenum and intake manifold (6mmscrew w/10mm head). Make sure the ground at the ECM(at the ECM connector) is good. Check voltage drop and continuity. Good luck.

i doubt this is an ecu ground issue. the vehicle is an obd0 and spark is mechanically controlled not ecm driven. if the coil is sparking at the distributor but not after it. then there might be the problem. is the distributor properly installed timing-wise.

how was spark tesed for at the coil? is 12 volt supplied to the coil? is there a good grond to the coil? is it possible the coil may be bad?

If there is good spark from the coil to the cap but nothing coming out then it has to be grounding through the distributor shaft. Inspect the rotor for burn through.
