guys,need some good advice here.

Everything is done on the car and it 'should' fire up. Tried to start it and it didnt fire up. Checked the spark and it seems as though I am only getting spark on cylinder #1. We checked all the coil packs and they spark on the #1 lead but on none of the other ones. I have a brand new ignitor chip and I dont think that is the problem.

any advice would be great.

all the wires are good.

I have a J4 ecu... I heard somewhere that the pin outs on the ecu to the harness might be modified. Not sure on this and I have searched fresh alloy and this forum with no luck =(

Weird how #1 lead gets spark but the others dont.

No, if it was your ignitor chip, I doubt you'd have any spark at all. That sounds like a wiring issue. When that guy did your wiring did he do anything to that part of the harness? I know on mine they didn't touch any of the major stuff, just the o2, the MAFS, a couple harnesses by the battery and under the dash.

I hooked up my AFC last week and it wasn't set up right, so the MAF signal wasn't correct to the computer...which, oddly enough, caused the #4 cylinder not to fire at all, but the other 3 would. We checked the entire ignition harness before we unhooked the AFC and it fired right up...so, might be something else causing the problem....just a thought

still havent figured out what the problem is. They guy that did the wiring harness is supposed to come by this weekend and figure it out.

One quick question, how important is it to mount the ignitor chip to something metal and grounded. I know that the chip has a metal backside and I think it is because the chip itself has to be grounded... anyone have thoughts on this?

Mine is just floating in midair where it's attached to the harness...so it shouldn't matter if it's grounded or not

Nils,

I just finished reading cyberkreig's homepage at:http://cyberkreig.tripod.com/project/index.htmlHe talked about different types of SR20DET ECUs. He mentioned also that the incompatibility with the wiring harness could lead to running on one cylinder. Check it out. I just happened to read his homepage right before I read your post.

Woo Hoo, My tangled mass of sad story has become a resource!! Nils, During my 5 months of working with Modified Motorsports and Heavy throttle to try to get my car to turn over, I learned lots of stuff.

AFAIK, the J4 is a 180sx Type X, ECU. Get the guy on freshalloy to run the number to make sure. It is possible that you have a Type X Ecu (different pinout setup than standard) and Standard Harness. Heavy Throttle mentioned the problem to me in passing. You are a technicaly knowledgeable guy, whipout the volt meter and check the firing order.. You can switch the wires around at the ECU or at the Ignitor.

hope this points you in the right direction

best of luck

Changed out the ECU and got spark on all 4 coilpacks. Also seemed to be a problem with the injectors... they werent getting 12V constant, so I fixed that up real quick and whattaya know... she fired up =)

Cool! Glad it runs, Nils. Cyberkreig is your savior :) Cyberkreig, if you read this, maybe you might want to have your webpage posted right at the beginning of the forum. It's so valuable to us....

It did help me realize that the ECU was wrong =) thx!

Buud... it sounded good.. very loud and nasty =) I should have everything wrapped up by tomorrow and stick a Mines tuned ECU (boost cut / rev cut eliminated) in the car. If everything goes well I'll post some pics of how the car looks outside my garage ;)
