I'll get back to you on this. It's been a while since I had to get my grubby mits dirty on an SOHC, but I'm looking over some of my old SOHC's pictures and the actual fsm on it. In the mean time, think you might be able to check over the resistance across the cable that goes from the ignition coil to the distributor cap.
The ignition coil should have a black wire, that's the ground (duh), black-red is hooked up to the ignition switch, and a light green/black wire that's hooked up to the power transistor. The transistor gets signal from the ecu ala a white wire. The green/black wire runs to a resistor and changes colors at the ecu to a yellow-red. This is from the fsm. I'm gonna start poking around through old pictures.
Let me know if that helped any.
