I just droped a new engine in my 89 maxima. I re connected everything there is to connect. I get power to the coil but no spark coming out of it. I already bougt a new one and it still doesn't start. Battery is fully charged all grounds are connected I can't think of what it is. I drove the car in before I pulled the motor. It used to start and run fine till I switched motors. I also changed that little light blue plug thing right behind the coil next to the distributor. Should I pull the distributor from the old engine and put it in the new one. With the plug going into the coil one wire is + and the other is - right. If so I only get about 5 volts but when I ground the tester to the motor the + gives me 12v. Could that be the problem if so how do I fix that.

try takin out the distributor and pull a plug wire to check for spark. spin the distrbutor by the gear and observe for spark. if it aint a sparkin i would try the distrib out of the other engine

I was going to try that but I gave up and had to go to work. Could that be the last thing at this point to check. What else can I look at when I get back to the car in the morning. I get plenty of fuel and everything else is good fuses all hoses connections and what-not. Thank you for your advise.

well the position of the engine is determined by the distributor sensor. if its not sending a signal it would be the prob. but the only other source of the prob would be ecm if its not sparkin

But it shouldn't be the ECM cause I drove it in right. (Hopeful thinking) Unless I burnt it out somehow?

Forgive me for asking so much I just want to cover all corners cause tomarro I wont have internet access and I'll be on my own with noone to help me.

its doubtful the ecm is your failure i suspect its your crank angle sensor in your dist. try the test with the one in the car. if the plug doesnt spark try the other known good dist.

I for mine I know the distributor is not in backwards I took it out yesterday and spun it with my hand I could hear the fuel injectors clicking and the fans were turning on which was wierd. But I still have no spark. I think I'm gonna have it towed to a shop that can put it on a computer.

After much testing, it looks like my new distributor is also bad!!!

Well I dropped mine off at the shop today. He seems like a real honest guy. He said he'll only charge me a little for the labor.

Ok so I got my car back let me see if I remember what he said. First he said I had an extra little gasket thing in one of the plugs so the plug wasn't getting a good connection. Then the sensor in the distributor went out. and also the timing was off by like 3/4 of a turn. It started up and I drove it home today. He charged me 85 dollors for it and I had a leak in the oil pan that he fixed for me.

Hope it helps you to start yours.
