no spark, car won't start

I have a 1991 240sx that I have owned and kept in superb condition since I bought it in 1992. It is my daily driver. I drove it to work one morning and when I started it to leave work it was running really rough, the whole car was shaking, where normally it is so smooth you can't tell if it is even on. I drove it home slowly and half way there it smoothed out and acted normal. It was very low on gas so I stopped and filled up. Ran perfect then almost home started running rough again.

At home, replaced spark plugs, rotor and cap. Originally no spark to #4 the other 3 had good spark and then no spark to any. Replaced the coil and still won't start. The car will turn over but won't start. Battery is one year old and is good.

Anyone have similar issues? I don't want to keep spending money replacing parts if they aren't the problem. Thanks!

Have you run the ECU in diagnostic mode to see if there are any codes?

I am doing all of this at home and I do not have a scanner. The check engine light has never come on.

You don't need a scanner to check.
