I have an 89' 240sx and I just put in a 96' Ka24de. All the parts are 96' except for the distributor came off a 95' from a salvage yard. When I turn the key the engine cranks. I had my friend turn the key while I held the wire off about an inch away from the distributor cap to see if there was any spark. There wasn't any on 1 or 2.

Does this mean I should get a new distributor off a 96', or is it that the distributor needs to be rotated?

Also will the distributor spark even though it's not aligned properly?

Thanks!

Texas240sx,Not knowing the KA24E engine too well. I'll try my best in terms of similarites. You should have an ignitor on the driver side engine bay. It's the fifth wire that goes to the distributor. Youll need a KA24DE S13 distributor for it to work. It'll have the fifth plug for you. I don't know how switching this engine in affects your ECU unless thats all been changed. Is this the case?

Are you even getting a spark to the ignitor? Pull the red top plug off the top of it and listen. So... ignitor --> distributor --> plugs

Let us know if you are getting a spark to the ignitor.Just could use a little more info on the swap. Was it only the motor. Motor and other electrical componets. Let us know.

Thanks.

llama, the s14 (95-98) has no external ignition coil, only 4 spark plug wires, no 5th. changes s13->s14, the ignition coil takes the place of the CAS, and the CAS is moved to the transmission (i think?)

texas buy a new distributor cap and rotor, these parts are cheap and you should not be using used ones. make sure the distributor is aligned properly. if you are sure you can get the ignition timing right then the next thing to check would be fuel, do the spark plugs even get wet with fuel if you keep cranking??

p00t,

thats what I'm trying to find out about the electrical. If he kept the S13 electrical system than he would need to get the s13 distributor or there wouldnt be any spark. The original ECM wouldnt know what to do, correct? I have an S14 engine in my car w/ an s13 distributor. That's how the S13 ECU sends the spark.

Thanks! The harness, ecu, engine, and everything else is off a 96' s14. I have to check to see if the plugs are gettig wet. That's the first thing I'm gonna do tommorrow morning, and also in the FAQ section, there's one called Timing Distributor. I'm gonna try that. I wanted to buy the distributor new, but Autozone wanted $200 for a rebuilt one.

Texas,

Ok sounds good. I just wanted to make sure you have that. Which distributor to use seems to be a problem that shows up from time to time.

Good luck with getting spark tot he distributor.
