I have a 06 M35 base w/factory stereo. While playing the radio, the sound just stopped. I can change stations, even see when I'm increasing the volume. But I cant hear anything. Please help. Thanks.

I hear nothing. Just had a phone call. Typically there would be a ringing sound from the speakers when I call is coming in. However, there was no no sound. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Your amp might be done. I belive there is an audio test in the diagnostics, not 100% sure from the last time i saw it. but go in and see, and if there is and it passes I would assume the amp is shot.

Check here for the instructions: diagnostic-mode-t579557.html?hilit=Audio%20diagnostic

Only reason I don't say it's the speakers is because you'd have to be killing it for all speakers to suddenly go at once.

Thanks TDot. Forgive me for my ignorance (I just bought this car 2 wks ago), but I didn't think my stereo had a factory amp. It is by the way a base unit, non-bose.

I believe you're right So_Ho. The factory amp only comes with the Bose sound system. If did you have an amp in your M35, then it would be in the trunk.

Thanks guys. So I went outside to the car to see if the sound was still M.I.A. and surprisingly it now works. Im so confused. Wonder what caused this to happen?

From what you've described so far, my guess would be a loose connection. Probably the wiring harness for the speakers.

Thanks for the advice Larry. Everything seems to work fine now. Currently looking at adding satellite radio to my base system. Found a module that will give me the factory look I want plus the ability to stream music from my phone.

I get the same situation from my current car, 08 G35 sport sedan tech package. I noticed it would work after I shut the car off and just restart it!! Not sure the direct cause of it but just started happening with these real cold days lately... :gotme

I figured out that it only happens when I have the volume high. Do anyone think I may have loose wires or maybe a speaker is blowed?

It could be auto protection circuitry. Perhaps a speaker is blown and is causing greater than normal resistance for that channel? Play music at a 1/4 level and bring your ear close to each speaker. Listen for a raspy noise or no noise at all. Open that speaker and check the connections.

If you suspect a short somewhere else you could pull wires from each of the speakers and measure the resistance between the two wires with the system on. It should give you a reading other than 0 (Zero).
