I have a 98 I30 that's having some sound issues. My Alpine HU lights up and everything, but no sound is coming out of the speakers. It's been working for 3 years up until now. I checked all the audio fuses and they're all cool. I even took the dash apart and all the wiring is tight. I'm getting a clicking noise coming from under the glove box when I turn the radio on. I also hear a short noise like my power antenna is trying to go up, but it doesn't go up. Please help!! These quiet drives are killin' me!! I need my bass back!!

Well, you can most likely rule out that the speakers are bad, not likely they all failed at once. One possibility I've seen before is if one speaker, or speaker wire, has a short the whole amp will shut down to protect it. This depends on the radio. Some will just shut down that channel, some will shut down the whole amp.

Start disconnecting each speaker one at a time at the radio and see if one will cause the radio to turn back on. If you have a multimeter test each speaker wire to see if any show a short to ground. Could also have one of your speakers touching ground with one of the terminals. If not show a direct short to ground, one pair may be shorted together either somewhere in the wire or one speaker has an internal short.

Process of elimination and you'll isolate the problem. If you try each speaker and it still doesn't kick back on you could have a bad radio. The clicking you hear could be the amp trying to turn on but keeps kicking off due to the short.
