no sound coming from computer

i have a compaq presario 700 laptop with windows xp home edition and it will not play sounds, not through the computer speakers, nor plug in speaker and not throug headphones either.

i checked all the volume setting and there all fine.

any ideas on what i can do to fix it? kinda sucks having a computer with no sounds

Go online and look for a driver update. Sounds like the driver for the sound card is gone/dead.
