Who would've thought that basic DVD install into my s13 would take two days???!!! I seem connecting everything right polarity wyse. But there's two harnesses I have to use. There's one from old Panasonic CD player and one from DVD. The unit plays and works fine, But I can't get any sound out of it. Not even static! Any Ideas?

I'm thinking that maybe one of the harnesses is shorting out somewhere and planning on just cutting the USDM plug off and connecting the wires straight to DVD harness. What do you think?

what do you mean you have to use an old panasonic cd player harness? also do you have the factory "premium sound" or whatever it's called it usually says something on the doors on the grills. Because it's a possibility the factory amp is garbage. I get that a lot at work when people come in with old cars with cut up wiring and no radio ever since they bought the car.

Well. Obviously the old panasonic CD player came with harness that consists of two plugs, which in their turn plugs into car's harness. I pulled the CD player out (cut it off that harness) and connected the wires that once went into CD player to DVD's harness. Luckily they color matched. I grounded the unit and turned it on. It works. No Sound. I then read the troubleshooter and thought that maybe the wires are touching smth. Repluged everything- no result. Now, You think I fried that factory amp? If so where is it located? What do I do to replace it / fix it/ toss it/ Bypass it? Cause the new DVD when plugged straight to the speaker produces great sound. Thanks in advance.

Well if you hook them straight to the speaker then, and it sounds just fine my guess would be that the factory amp is just garbage. and if it were me i'd personally just run all new wiring to each speaker. Just because i don't like using factory wiring, much less factory amps. But the most effective way to bypass the amp is just to run all new wiring to the speakers that way you know there are no shorts, cuts etc in the wiring. But if you did want to replace the factory amp i'm pretty sure that in s13s it's in the rear left quarter panel area.

I sat down in a car last night (pulled seats out, so it's easier to move around) and thought what I REALLY wanted to achieve. So the final decision was to just hook the speakers I bought (Polk) straight to DVD harness. Rewiring was a pain in the a$$, maybe it's because I was doing it @3 in the morning. But after some time, I was all done. Great sound. I had to also modify one lil lever on parking brake, so it plays DVDs and TV while in motion. Satisfied. Left the fun part of reinstalling the drivers panelling and seats for tonite. Also realized that I'll have to sell my DCC setup, since that DVD screen coveres everything, even the midle air vents partially. Plus we all know that hooking it up is a big pain. That's it. I'm gonna post a pic of how it looks tonite, after I clean up.Hey, Zerepdivad! Any good places on step by step instructions to install an alarm system? I'm planning to do it next weekend. So, if you don't mind- I'll bug you even more..
