I think I know the answer to this one, but wanted some expert opinions:

Just recently my sound stopped working: NOTHING from radio, CD player, ipod hooked up, Bluetooth from phone, navigation, or back up sonar sounds, etc. Everything else electrical works without a hitch, so don't think it's battery related

Ran the diagnostics menu and amplifier came up as problem.
Checked the fuses - they're good. I think the amp is as Larz says, "titz up"

Gonna bring it to the dealer tomorrow - should still be under warranty (2013, with 56,000 miles), because I know the audio amplifier with Journey package is like $2200!!! don't wanna pay for that!

but if not, is it possible to just go with an aftermarket amplifier with the same/better specs and just get it installed at a car stereo place? that shouldn't cause any problems with the rest of the system, right?

I think the problem with an aftermarket amp would be the connections. The stock amp is probably sending some sort of signal...when people install aftermarket amps, I believe the stock one is still doing something.

You will need to identify the speaker signal wires that are going into the Bose amp, and then test them to see if you are getting a usable signal. based on the system diagrams I have seen it does look like it is versus a digital signal which (like Ilya mentioned) will make the whole project a lot harder. If you are then you can use integration module, aftermarket amp, and an EQ to drive the factory speakers and/or aftermarket speakers and subwoofer in the factory locations.

The factory amp may also run other systems that are not as easily replicated but I am not sure. I will have to look again.

This will be the route I take if my factory amp ever gives up on me and an OE replacement is priced too high for me.

that's what I was afraid of...there are a lot of connectors back there, I didn't think an aftermarket amp switch was going to be that simple. Sourcing out a used one might be the cheapest way to go if warranty doesn't cover it.

If you're not in luck with the dealer, just take it to a professional audio shop. They'll hook you up with a JL audio or other quality amp for less. Gl

Update:

so had to work last night, but car was dead, had to take wife's Durango in - don't remember leaving anything on or plugged in.
later the next morning, jumped the battery, voila suddenly I have sound!!!???!!

Wondering if battery going bad...since these cars do weird things when the battery is going bad

At dealer later this morning - Service Advisor tells me the battery is good, BUT the amp is bad and needs to be replaced. However, they have to order it (will prolly take a week) so can't be fixed today. Luckily still under warranty.

Also get a rounded off lug nut off the car - someone torqued that motherF waaay too tight, NO charge!!! Plus, a car wash...she's sparkly again!! I wasn't sure about getting a white car, but that Pearl White finish looks real nice in the sunlight.

This happend to my car.amp was broken.dealer replaced it but it was covered under warranty. Think i made a thread about it.ether way im happy i purchased the elite premium warranty. Still have 4 more years or 100k .my car has 47k so im good.the broken amp paid for the warranty itself.so its worth it.

Definitely going to be purchasing this too before I get to 60,000 miles - one electrical thing goes wrong on your ride and you'll be taken for a ride with the cost to replace/fix it.

That Pearl White is the bomb yo!!!,lol. The pearl white really shines in the sunlight and when it's cleaned up. Perfect Color to me.
