Ok first off I just recieved a 1992 300zx 2+2 auto n/a in a trade for a four wheeler I literally paid $500 for two weeks prior. It has two keys both non factory Z keys and is also missing the radio. The car hasn't been registered since 2009 and the previous owner told me it ran fine until he took the battery out of it to use for another car and since then it's been sitting . Anyhow, it isn't running and I've been doing some wire tracing. When I got it home I put the battery from my ranger in it to start diagnosing. All of the interior stuff works, lights, auto climate control, windows, horn, headlights etc... But it wouldn't even try to crank or click when I tried to start. The starter relay was receiving no ground and no signal to the coil side ( white wire and brown and white wire) so I jumped the theft relay which provided ground to the starter relay, but still no signal from the inhibitor switch. Well I put a jumper on the switch side of the starter relay, turned the key and the starter cranks perfectly. Ok so now I wanted to know if I had spark, so I had a friend spray in some starting fluid, and she runs !!! So now I still need to test my inhibitor switch to check if that is the reason I'm getting no signal to the starter relay. Still no signal from the theft module to the theft relay as well and no signal to the starter relay from the inhibitor switch.
Next is the fuel pump. It gets 12v across the switch side of the relay, but the coil side gets no ground from the ECU ( black and purple wire) . I tried to jump the switch side of the fuel pump relay, and no noise or vibration was felt or heard from the pump with the trap door open. Next I Removed the fuel filter and put the hose into an old gas can ( in hopes that I could pump out the old bad gas) with no luck. I even tried bypassing the fuel pump control module while jumping the relay and running a hot 12v directly to the fuel pump and still nothing. So this is where I am. Tomorrow I'll pull out the fuel pump and hand pump out all of the old fuel as well as run wires from a battery directly to the pump out of the car just to make 100% sure it's not the cause.
So anyone that can help me out I would greatly appreciate your time and opinions, I honestly feel like I'm dealing with some kind of security issue or a possible bad ECU. If you've read this novel, then you've experienced day one of my 3rd new to me Z.thanks in advance, I'll post pics when I get more accustomed to the site
