So my car needs a new clutch and on friday I start tearing into it. When I get to the part when I need to drain the fluid from the transmission, I notice that it looks odd. It looks red. Strangely like the color of automatic transmission fluid. Hmmm, so I smell it. If any of you have ever smelled the gear oil that is supposed to be in there, it has a pretty strong sulfur smell. What draining out of my transmission right now doesn't smell anything like this. And now for the good part I notice that little chunks of metal are now draining out of the transmission. I'm obviously overjoyed. Well, the transmission seemed to work alright before, though it was a little sloppy, but it's got over 200,000 miles on it. So I decied what the hell, I put the clutch in anyway. Everything seems to be alright so far, but I wonder how long that auto transmission fluid was in there (it came out pretty dark) and how many miles of life did it kill. Like I said, no really, I LIKE stupid people. Grrr. Good thing Daunts getting motors in a couple of weeks, I think I'm going to be needing one.

My RedLine Shockproof heavy gear oil was red. Maybe this is what they had in there :)

PERSONALLY, I'm going CA because of what I'm wanting to do with the car. I'm a member of SCCA and do a lot of SOLOII and autocross stuff and I deciede this motor would work best for my application. Plus it is physically smaller and I believe (though I don't have any evidence for this yet) that more of the motor will sit behind the front wheels, helping to even out the weight distribution. I have a base model coupe and I'm trying to stay light and I think that I can tune the suspension to be almost completely neutral, with a SLIGHT tendancy tword oversteer. To achieve that I wanted as much of the motor behind the wheels at possible. For what I'm doing, I don't need rediculous amounts of power. I do need a nice powerband and with the CA's higher redline I felt that it would better suit my needs. Now if I was wanting to use the car for the streets and thursday night drags, then I'd go SR. It would be a whole lot cheaper to get big power out of it would rate a whole lot higher on the "cool" scale. But this car will see occasional street use and based on my information and goals, the CA was the motor for me.

i like ur points, but as far as redline difference, there is only 300 difference, which isnt a whole lot, i like both engines, but i want a lightly modded SR20, that is streetable and easier to find more parts for

Actually, Paul (movingviolation240) used to shift his at 9grand all the time and he said he never had any problems with it. I don't think I"ll be doing that, but I have a lot more faith in over revving a CA than I do an SR. Don't get me wrong, I think the SR is a great motor and it's got pretty good aftermarket support. Basically they are both really great motors and wichever you choose is a great choice.

the Ca can easily rev to 9or 10 k once the valve train had minor rework done to it ... the bottom end is beefier... and its way cooler looking... its also very well designed motor and cheaper... and parts arnt hard at all to find... ask for Ca18et or Ca18de parts most fit no prob...

Exactly, I know me, and I know I'm going to break something, and when I do, I don't want to have to get them from Japan.

there's this myth about how the CA is so hard to find parts for which isn't true. just ask MV240 (paul) ca18de has more interchangeable parts for the ca18det, while the sr20de and sr20det have none (if at all)

i'm going to go for a CA first, if an SR happens to come up, i'm down with that too. not to mention the CA is cheaper

KS, i'm involved in autocross too! so i see what ya mean about the pro's of the CA in that sport as far as necessity goes

;) good luck!!

Skydragoness- have you started running again yet up there? Our first run of the season was last Sunday. It was a blast (ofcourse) What class are you running in? What kinda of times are you getting? What all (if anything) do you have done to your car? My last 240 had an AWSOME suspension setup and it was kickin some ***, but it met it's demise with the rear-end of a nissan pickup. Oh well, I'm going to start with the motor this time and then go from there. Anyway, I'm counting the days till Adam gets his stuff in.
