My KA has 186,000 miles on it and recently has been extremely slow, im getting barely any power. Its actually running and idling really smooth so i dont think its timing. It hasnt been running rich or lean, ive even done a compression test and its fine. When i open the oil cap a little white smoke comes out and im assuming thats burnt oil. its acting like it has a blown head gasket but has compression and isnt overheating. please help me out

Sounds to me like the distributor could be off. Put your KA at TDC. If the rotor on your distributor isn't facing the front of the vehicle your distributor is off.

with that many miles..there are a few things i would look into..#1. i would double check the timing before i did anything else, check both the cams and the dizzy to make shure everything looks good ...and check your coil, rotor and cap...you really have to start with the basics...timing..air..fuel..spark...then and only then do you start replacing things..unless it's time for regular maintinance...#2. would be a new timing kit and tentioners...it's not uncommon for timing chains to stretch over time...#3.might be a good idea to pull the head and replace those pesky valve seals, and while your at it..re-lap the valves....in the worse case you could loose the tentioner cousing the chain to skip a link..iv'e had it happen to me before..this would definitly couse power loss when the timing advances.....as i said a few lines before...most owners of the 240sx dont really think of regular maintinance unless some issue happens..one thing to keep in mind is that most 240's out there are well over 160,000. miles on there motors...things will definitly start to go wrong soon..it's in the best interest to start changine key components to new ones, specally those components that can couse catastrophic failure..as in grenading of your engine...the most important of these to change first..its the timing chains and tentioners...if you loose ither chain..kiss that block good-by as your pistons will slam into your valves..at this point something will have to give..its normally the conrod..thou the block..anyways..good luck.and post what ya decide and find out.

So, i did some troubleshooting today and checked my timing and a few other things mentioned. my timing was a little off and also i found out i had an injector on cylinder 3 that wasnt getting enough connection, i think it was only opening partially. I scanned my ecu too and found out my knock sensor was throwing a code. i wired a resister to it and now its fine. It has gotten a LOT of its power back but its still burning a little oil, its probly those valve stem seals like you were saying. Thanks for the help! I think i got it running good enough to last until i finish saving up for my rb swap!

:nono: ...here is some solid advice bro...dont take this the wrong way....your not ready for an RB-anything..your know how mechanicly is just not there for this type of trouble....rb's can be verry hard to maintain even for the most experienced guy on this forum..and the availibility of parts here in the states is limited allso..and if ya do sumpthin wrong and the block grenades..then your down a good 3000 to $5000 bucks....now with that said...I DO recomend a ka24de-T build...not only is the block lighter...but you can build this little torque monster safely to 500hp easy...and if sumpin happens...you can find another long block for $100. bucks all day long...i wish you luck bro..what ever you decide..but please reaserch the KA-T vs the RB before you drop the coin...we have a vid of our blue car thats in our team on our myspace site sliding around..he's KA-T pumpin about 350whp...btw...he wasted our RB25 team mate on the track..he has Aria's pistons...K1 rods...and a GT2861 spec R turbo....verry little mods.

Thanks for the advice. The only reason i was set on a rb is because of how many local friends of mine have rbs and plenty of knowledge and parts laying around, and they were gonna help with the swap. But i will do what you suggested and look into a ka-t build and do more research. Thanks again for the help! And awesome video by the way!
