Hi guys,
So I just got a 1984 300ZX Turbo from my Uncle for free. It's sat awhile and has it's problems, I have some questions because I'm new to these kind of car.

1. I have no power to anything. The battery is good, and I just replaced the cable clamps and cleaned the grounds. I checked for power and the fusible links and didn't get anything. Which means the problem is between the battery to starter cable or the starter to fusible link box right? Anything special to check first and foremost?
2. I'm going to replace the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump, is there anything else I should replace while I'm at it? And is it pretty hard to replace the timing belt?
3. My Uncle had said that the turbo compressor is bad, so what does that actually mean? (Never had a turbo car before) Do they go out often? Are they easy to replace? What are the signs of a bad turbo compressor?
4. What's the name of this part? I think in the manual it said it was the FICD?

Thanks for putting up with all the amateur questions guys.

If the "Turbo Compressor" is bad then turbo is bad, signs of a bad turbo are either oil in the hot pipe, oil in the exhaust side of the turbo or shaft play on the turbo shaft, the fix is a new turbo. There are a group of fusible links right next tot he battery thats a good place to start, also you said the cable clamps were replaced so did someone remember to connect the power wire to the new clamp that leads to the fusible link box?

There were 2 wires on the original clamps. One was the black and yellow one that goes down to the starter? And the other was a smaller gauge white wire that looked aftermarket, is that the power wire for the fusible link box? I thought the power was routed from the battery down to the starter and back up to the fusible link box? Or at least that's how it looks on my Haynes manual.

Nope it's the white wire, if you had the stock battery cables that wire had a special end on it that fit in with the stock battery clamp. I'm sure what you are looing at in haynes is simply a diagram, it doesn't matter which end of the cable it's attached to as both ends of the cable have the same current, the end by the battery happens to be right next to the fusible link box.

I hooked up that wire and got power to the fusible link box and I now have power to the inside but the dash and radio doesn't have power. Any suggestions?

Good news, I got power. I had a blown fusible link, now I have power to everything except the radio. However, know when I turn the car over the starter makes a weird noise similar grinding?

Check the starter, could be loose, or the bracket that it goes through could be missing I've seen that happen.
