1993 Nissan Pathfinder with about 230K. I drove the car to work this morning and everything was fine. When I got back to the car to come home, I turned the key and nothing happened. No clicking, no oil pressure light or alternator light on the dash, no radio and no windows. The lights inside and out work fine. I checked the battery and I have about 12.4 VDC but no power getting to the start relay on the right fender. Jumper cables were no help. I drove through some water this morning, but I still ran the car for about 15 minutes afterwards. I am thinking a shorted main relay but I dont want to shotgun parts.

When you say main fuses, I am lost. I opened the hood and there is a relay box in there with 2 fuses for the headlights and a few relays. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? This relay box is on the right fender, behind the start relay.

on the battery positive terminal there are 2 plugs with colored cloth wire insulation on them the 2 pieces are about 3 inches in length and are colored usually green and red if they are not to dirty. these are your fusable links . they burn up when to many amps are drawn on their respective circuits. use an ohm meter to test for continuity in each of them or unplug there connectors down on the harness side ,not the battery side, and check for voltage with a test light. figure out if one of them is burnt out.

I will check those. So you dont think that there is a main relay problem? Without a print of this thing I have to resort to a hillbilly blue print and try and follow wire harnesses. By the way, I put a meter on the ignition switch and the continuity changes between the 3 posts as the switch is turned, so at least I know that it is working. THANKS!

I checked the wiring from the battery as you had said, and one of the fuseable link wires read about 1.5 ohms, while the other read 40 mega ohms. I replaced both wires and now they both read less than 1 ohm. I turned the key and ol' Pathy started! Thanks for the help!
