Hello: I have a 97 2wd nissan pickup that quit running and wouldnt start. the mechanic pulled it in and said it was the distributer. He replaced it, I guess. and then wanted to time it. It ran okay but seemed to miss. When he timed it, it really had no power and would pop bac under the hood. I had to slip the clutch to get it to go. I took it back and he replaced all the wires and sparkplugs and did the timing. It still was running bad, not as much popping, but no power. He then said it was the catalytic converter. He took it off and I tried to drive it, before putting the converter back on and it still has no power. He said I needed to put higher octain gas in it and I did and it seems to be using more gas and still no power and it backfires and occasionally pops under the hood. I replace the fuel filter too. Could anybody tell me how to fix my truck? It is a nissan XE 2wd pickup. I think 4 cylinder. I'm at a loss. I also need to know where to get a catalytic converter cheap. Thank you. fayster3

sound like your mechanic is a moron, it sounds like its out of time. did the mechanic disconnect the tps connector before timing it?
