Ok long story short i recently purchased my first Z! Its a 1978 280z w/ 74k miles on the original l28/5 spd. Its in great shape, but its been sitting in a garage in bayside, N.Y. for 7 years. The last few weekends have been spent replacing all the tune up parts as well as flushing the fuel system & replacing the fuel pump. Now for my problem : I replaced everything that looked s***ty, reconnected any lose wires, cleaned up connections & basically thought it was ready to turn over. First i had the wires crossed on the starter so when i connected the new battery the starter just started spinning. I fixed that quickly, went to start it and nothing. I have no power at all, not even a horn. Me and a friend went over the wiring & fuses and saw nothing wrong. I did notice 2 frayed & disconnected wires close to the Fusible links but there’s nothing to connect them to. They look big enough to hold a reasonable amount of electric and i traced them to the same part of the harness the starter wires come out of. Do you think they mean anything? Thinking i blew out the starter solenoid, i swapped it with the old one. Still nothing. Did i mess up my electrical system or am i just overlooking something? Any feedback would be appreciated, i only have the garage im using for a limited time so i need go get this baby road worthy soon. Pics of the random 2 wires below, thanks.

how do you hook up a starter backwwards? there is on heavy positive wire and one small signal wire?

there should be a fusible link coming off the charge wire form the alternator, you might have burnt it out if you somehone wired the starter to ground

the 2 wires taht go to the starter are a thin gauge wirre with a spade terminal and a heavy gauge wire that has a larger ring terminal, I still fail to see how you could hook them up backwards without trying really hard

the chassis ground wire hooks to a through bolt (usually at the top of the bellhousing) and goes to the negetive side of the battery so reversing the ground woudl have required nto looking at the source of the wires before installing, I just don't see how anyone could do either??

so what did you hook up where? tell me exactly what you did wrong and I'll have a better idea of where to look

The Neg from the battery is bolted to were the starter meets the transmission. The first post has the Pos from the battery as well as what looks like and Accessory wire(has a "25"fuse attached to it) & the other post has a wire that comes out of the wireing harness & a wire that goes directly to the starter. the wire that comes from the harness splits and has a little fitting on it(i guess that what you ment by spade) and that slips on to a flat peice under the 2 posts. Were does the ECU get its power from? from the hook ups on the starter or am i missing something completly? Its Fuel enjected by the way.

the ground cable should actually be bolted to the bolt toat goes through the trans to the engine at the top of the trans

that other positive lead is the constant power for all circuits that require constant power, it goes through a fuse or fusible link, then it feeds other fucible links and the constant power side of the fuse box
