for some reason, my 2000 MAXIMA SE 5 speed seems to lose power as the RPM's climb.

It's been like this since I bought it 6 months ago (51K on the car now), but recently seemed to get worse. When I accelerate through the 3200 RPM point at anything more than 2/3 throttle it feels like it gives up, doesn't pull as hard.Just recently it has started doing this at 3600 RPM as well. It's like the engine is choking. The car will accelerate to redline, but it's like I've got a really strong head wind. I doesn't WANT to accelerate. Up until a month ago it was OK at higher RPM, just had the one 3200 RPM set back.

Modifications: BERK intake (similar to Frankencar), Warp speed Y pipe (car is CALI spec), B&M STS. All mods have been on since winter.

Any advice appreciated.

You need an updated airflow meter and a ECM reprogram. If you are in california and you are under 80k Its covered under factory warrenty[at least the reprogram is. Take a look at your airflow meter. if standing by the left front tire and looking over the housing of the airflow meter[on the engine side you should see some numbers. if the last 5 numbers are -AD200 you need an updated airflow meter and reprogram. I think the updated one ends in 5Y001 but dont qoute me on that that could be the 2001 updated part #. The old number I gave you will be correct though.

Thanks! Unfortunately I'm not in CA. Any suggestions on where to get a good deal on a new meter? I just hate the thought of going to the local dealership. Even when the car was under warranty it seems that nothing was ever covered.

the only way you can get the ECM reprogramed for the updated A/F meter is through the dealer. The new airflow meter is fairly cheap compared to other model nissans. From the dealer its around $115 . call your local dealer and find out if your ECM is still under warrenty. The warrenty for the Reprogram may still apply under fedral emissions warrenty laws.

It doesn't. They have charged me a half hour's labor just to re-set the idle speed. But thanks... off I go to the stealership.

Adjustments are not covered under warrenty after 12 months here in calif either. Thats about what we would charge. It involves more then a simple turning of a screw. to do it properly your need to use the consult to reset values and to put the vehile in base mode so it doesnt compensate when making the adjustment.
