I got a new computer (Motherboard, Memory, CPU and Video card). I had a Hard Drive (HD) with Windows XP X64 (64 Bit) already installed on it. But that was from a computer with a different internals. So anyways I put the HD in the new computer and I get "No Operating System Found" sometimes or other times it will boot into the windows menu and say "Windows was not shut down properly..." And no matter what I pick Normal/Safe mode boot a Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) shows up witht he following error: ***STOP 0x0000007B....

I have tested the Maxtor 160GB IDE HD and it passed all the test (With the Maxtor CD provided).

Spin Rite says it can not access the HD.

The HD makes no unusual noises.

I have used the Windows XP X64 CD to repair windows (Fix Boot, Fix MBR) and that has not helped. I have also used the CD to install new Windows files (Yet perserve my files) (Repair if you will.)

Please help.

You'll need a clean install of the OS for all new hardware.

Wow that was a extremely fast response, Thanks!

But what I don't get is why can't Windows install the drivers for the new hardware? Plus this is a retail version I bought not a OEM (One time use) version. For the time being though I wanted to do a repair of windows till I get a new HD.

It sounds like I need a new Hard Drive (HD) to put windows on so I can save any files I have on their. Trouble is I can't remember if I do or don't.

And By The Way (BTW) the HD is set up as a Primary Master drive.

It's more than just drivers when it comes to completely new hardware. Unfortunately it isn't quite that plug and play.

And I understand your pain with the cost of windows. While not allowed by the EULA, you may still be able to install your copy of windows on that computer without much of a hassle. Granted, this still isn't legal, but I am not sure when Microsoft starts shutting down the key for being installed on too many machines.

You don't need another HDD to get the computer to run. You do, however, need one if you plan on salvaging any of the data from your current drive.

I was able to do this with Windows 7, but Windows XP it's understandable you need a format.
